River running in the Verde Watershed

Head on down to the river &

Numerous stretches of the Verde River and its tributaries offer opportunities and challenges for beginning and experiences river runners in canoes, kayaks, raft,or even innertubes.

Careful consideration of weather, water flows, equipment and trip logistics are always necessary to enjoy a river experience. If you are new to river running, please read "Planning A Safe Trip".

One of the most popular stretches of the Verde River flows from Camp Verde to Beasley Flats, downstream from Interstate 17.

A developed public access site lies next to the Highway 260 bridge. Toilets, tables and ramadas make this a pleasant spot.

A leisurely day trip lies along the eight miles from the "White Bridge" to picturesque Beasley Flats--the beginning of Arizona's only Wild and Scenic River section.

Midway through this bucolic, tree-lined stretch paddles enjoy a lunch break at the public "Clear Creek Access Site". All other streambanks along this stretch are private property and are urged to respect landowners rights.

Whitewater Adventures!

An 18-mile Class 3 whitewater section of the Verde River stretches between Beasley Flats and the tiny community Childs. Dramatic Verde Falls highlights this exciting run.

Whitewater enthusiasts from throughout the Southwest converge on the Beasley-Childs run during spring runoff season when flows often measure several thousand cubic feet per second.

Low water spring-summer-fall trips in the boulder strewn channel often prove too difficult for ill-prepared paddlers. A long dirt-road vehicle shuttle is required to run this section.
